The Exbury Egg<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>We\u2019ll start with perhaps the least \u2018out there\u2019 design. <a style=\"font-size: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spud.org.uk\/exbury-egg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Exbury Egg<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"> is primarily an art piece created by artist Stephen Turner. We\u2019re not sure it <\/span><i style=\"font-size: inherit;\">should<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"> be classed as a boat because it has no mode of propulsion \u2013 but it\u2019s a remarkable example of possibility in water living. It\u2019s essentially a floating self-sustaining cabin, tethered to a gently ebbing river bank, and it\u2019s clear how its design reflects its purpose as a studio space and work retreat.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/ext\/embed.html?id=644507396651460695\" width=\"345\" height=\"755\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>2. A Guitar Boat<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">This boat may not exactly be a practical mode of transport, but if you\u2019re the sort of person who can never travel without their guitar, it makes sense to travel <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">with <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">your guitar. It was commissioned by Australian singer-songwriter <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicradar.com\/news\/guitars\/for-sale-giant-acoustic-guitar-doubles-as-speed-boat-192955\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Josh Pyke for use in a music video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">, and certainly serves its purpose of being eye-catching. That said, a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coxmarine.com\/engine-cxo300\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">CXO300 outboard behind it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"> would likely be even <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">more <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">eye-catching &#8211; and make it a bit more effective!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/ext\/embed.html?id=827255025274155320\" width=\"345\" height=\"713\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">3. A Zip Boat<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Used for quite literally \u2018zipping\u2019 passengers around, this quirky ferry was designed by Japanese artist Yasuhiro Suzuki to carry passengers between Takamatsu City and Megijima, a popular island destination for tourists during the summer.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">The artist has been quoted as saying his inspiration came when he was looking down at Tokyo Bay from a plane, and saw how the foam trailing behind a boat made it look as if the boat was \u201copening up the sea like a zipper.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/ext\/embed.html?id=2462974773224080\" width=\"345\" height=\"332\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">4. Amphicar Model 770<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Described as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">\u201c90% roadster, 10% boat, 100% useless\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"> in a Drivetribe article, the Amphicar Model 770 was a strange combination of late 50s, early 60s idealism. The vaguely futurist ideal at the time was that you could make everything do anything. In theory, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">yes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">, you can put it in water\u2026but outside of a Bond-film chase scene, how often do you need to drive your car into water? Even if it wasn\u2019t<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">particularly useful, it does look cute.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/ext\/embed.html?id=702772716844396395\" width=\"345\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>5. Hyper-Sub<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Perhaps a more useful contender for the dual-function boat title than the Amphicar, this is the Hyper-Sub. It looks remarkably ominous, but having a dual function of speedboat <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">and <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">submarine at least makes sense \u2013\u00a0they\u2019re both to do with water, after all.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Its dual-purpose likely makes it very useful for military or scientific work, where it\u2019d be impractical to have to transfer cargo and equipment to an entirely separate ship.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/ext\/embed.html?id=288723026116789942\" width=\"345\" height=\"276\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>6. The Seabreacher <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">This boat is particularly crazy &#8211; essentially a submersible jet-ski with wacky outfits. Made to look like various aquatic life \u2013 such as swordfish &amp; whales \u2013 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/seabreacher.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">the Seabreacher<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"> can dive five feet underwater and launch itself up to 20 feet above it. It\u2019s one for thrill-seekers, and certainly on the more unusual side of watercraft.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/ext\/embed.html?id=110408628354205770\" width=\"345\" height=\"330\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>7. The Adastra Superyacht<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">The Adastra superyacht is an impressive trimaran design that at first seemed unlikely to actually get to production. But <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/astrada-superyacht-launches\/22135\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">it\u2019s actually been launched<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">, and is able to house six crew and nine passengers \u2013 and with a range of an astounding 4000 nautical miles (7408km).<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/ext\/embed.html?id=185703184626121861\" width=\"345\" height=\"359\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>8. The Superyacht from Sunreef <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Sunreef is known for the quality of their yachts, and has caused a few splashes since they were founded in 2007.
