Cox Marine Introduces New Test and Development Vessel at International Workboat Show
New Tideman RBC1200, Miranda, provides Cox Marine with a dedicated platform for engineering, validation, customer demonstrations and the development of integrated marine propulsion solutions.
Shoreham-by-Sea, UK – 06 October 2026 – Cox Marine, the British manufacturer of high-performance diesel outboard engines, has commissioned a purpose-built commercial workboat to strengthen its testing and development capabilities and demonstrate its technology in real-world operating environments.
Named Miranda, the bespoke 12-metre Tideman RBC1200 made its first public appearance at the International Workboat Show in Hoorn, Netherlands, on 29 and 30 September, attended by Cox Marine CEO George Bramley, and CTO James Eatwell. Following its debut, Miranda will be put to work as Cox Marine’s dedicated engineering, demonstration and development vessel.
Powered by twin Cox Marine 300hp V8 diesel outboards, Miranda has been developed as a fully integrated vessel platform, bringing together propulsion, steering, vessel control, navigation, communications and onboard systems.
Constructed from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), the RBC1200 combines durability, impact and corrosion resistance with low maintenance requirements. Its enclosed wheelhouse and large open working deck provide a versatile platform for demanding professional applications, including patrol, defence, law enforcement, offshore support, harbour operations and search and rescue.
George Bramley, CEO of Cox Marine, said:
“Miranda represents an important investment in our engineering and development capability, giving us a dedicated commercial platform to test, validate and demonstrate our technology in real-world operating environments. By bringing together propulsion, steering, control and navigation technologies, Miranda demonstrates how these systems can work together as an integrated package.
It was great to introduce Miranda to the industry at the International Workboat Show, and we look forward to putting the vessel to work supporting future development and giving customers and partners the opportunity to experience our solutions on the water.”
A fully integrated commercial platform
Miranda is equipped with the latest Dometic electronic steering, joystick control and vessel autopilot systems, alongside technology from leading marine industry partners across its navigation, communications and onboard systems.
Built to comply with MCA Workboat Code Edition 3 requirements, with certification achieved in partnership with MECAL, the vessel also incorporates a fully compliant Small Vessel Electronic Chart System (SV-ECS).
The project reflects Cox Marine’s drive to provide greater expertise across the complete propulsion installation, supporting the integration of propulsion, steering, control and associated vessel systems. Miranda will provide an ongoing platform for product development and validation, customer and partner demonstrations, sea trials and training.
Cox Marine has received market feedback from South Korea indicating that its diesel outboard technology is delivering even greater fuel efficiency benefits than expected in the country's expanding seaweed harvesting industry, with operators reporting fuel savings of up to 50% compared with gasoline alternatives.
